Old Bordenian 6th X1 – 4
Holcombe - 3
Bordenians came up against their familiar rivals on Saturday and found themselves a goal up against the run of play when Bollard found Stephens at the far post for a simple finish. The goal changed the pattern of the game with the Old Boys starting to use both wings to good advantage and were rewarded with a second goal when Robinson slotted home from a short corner. Holcombe went close on two occasions but were unable to find an equaliser before the half ended.
After the break Bordenians again took control of the game, with Gilbert, Chapman and Henley dominant in midfield and a third goal came when Robinson adroitly finished off a good move from close range. Holcombe were determined opposition and added a second goal to their tally, when the Old boys dropped their concentration in defence. A marvellous instinctive finish from Stephens seemed to have sealed the match, but once again Holcombe's competitiveness brought them back within a goal of the Old Boys, who defended resolutely for the last 10 minutes to ensure a narrow victory.
