Old Bordenian 5th XI – 1

University of Kent - 3

A much changed fifth team were beaten by a well organised Universtity team.  The Bordenian defence bore scant resemblance to the previous week's unit and this showed as they struggled to gel.  Individuals played strongly and made committed tackles but only an outstanding performance by David Baker, in his first game for the fifths, kept the Sittingbourne side in the game. Bordenians had started well and, after a number of early breaks, Paul Clunn scored an excellent goal from a Paul Gower cross.  As the first half progressed, the University of Kent midfield's extra mobility began to tell and, as the game continued, the relentless pressure was converted into two goals.  There followed a period of balanced play until ten minutes from the end when the University team scored a third goal.  Bordenians continued to battle and Paul Hood almost scored with an excellent strike from the edge of the D.
