Old Bordenian 4th X1 – 1

New Beccehamians -1

Despite the scoreline, given that the visitors had fielded a very strong side, Bordenians came off the pitch feeling like winners.

The calm heads and experience of Simon Robbins, Richard Gower and Brian Lane prevented the home team offering too much respect to the opposition. Central defender Stephen Bond managed to mark their main threat out of the game thereby frustrating all but one of their attacking moves. With no score at half time, it was Stephen Bond who produced a key speech motivating the team to be even more positive.

Once again the young mid-fielders used their skills and pace to unsettle their opposite numbers, allowing the Old Boys to defend high up the pitch and this led to a goal from Simon Robbins. The inevitable backlash was forthcoming, but not particularly effective, and with James Anderson playing well in goal the home side left the pitch feeling as if they had moved forward with their aim to produce quality young players.
