Old Bordenian 4B X1- 8
Old Beccehamians - 0
This was always going to be a key game for the Bordenians against a rival team near the top of the table, but in the end it was an enjoyable game but not as close as had been expected.
From the push back, the home team pressured the opposition and it was ten minutes before Beccehamians made it out of their half. Given the pressure and opportunities created it was a surprise that Bordenians scored only one goal in that period when Neil Willis fired home from the top of the area. Anticipating an easy victory even at this early stage resulted in Bordenians playing some loose and sloppy hockey, and the final two goals of the half did not arrive until just before half time. Several opportunities to increase the goal margin were not converted.
At the break, Bordenians were reminded of the importance of the game and through the second half they played more controlled, focused hockey. Goals came at regular intervals, and at the conclusion of the fixture the home side should have scored rather more than the eight that they did for the result to be a fair reflection of the balance of play.
