Cobdown - 2

Old Bordenian 4B X1- 4

With the league season recommencing after the Christmas break, the youthful Bordenian side headed to an uneven grass pitch to experience the joys of hockey of yore.

Against a robust Cobdown team, Bordenians were naturally nervous and it was no surprise when they conceded the initial goal as Sanjit Atwal could only steer the looping ball into his own net. Bordenians were, however, not put off by this setback but fought their way to the other end where Geoff Lamb slotted home the equalizer. This was swiftly followed by their second as Lamb drifted in from the left and planted a firm shot into the top right hand corner, and a third came as skipper Neil Willis crashed home a short corner. Cobdown did not buckle  and, playing downhill with the wind, were able to bundle in another goal to set up an interesting second half.

With the physical geography now in their favour, Bordenians succeeded in putting the game beyond the home side in the first two minutes, when Richard Phillips stole in at the far post to score after a good move between James Wilson and Jon Robbins. From that point onwards no-one from Cobdown could influence the score and Bordenians gradually wound the clock down with basic but effective punts upfield into the corners, securing three valuable points in their quest for promotion.
