Old Bordenian 4B X1 - 3
Ashford - 1
Having secured promotion two weeks ago, Bordenians effectively secured the league title with this win over a resolute Ashford side.
Bordenians began the game in very positive fashion but a combination of wastefulness in front of goal and inspired goal-keeping prevented them from placing this game out of sight early in the first half. Although the visitors had the odd foray into the home side's half, the first period was one-sided with Bordenians retaining possession almost exclusively in Ashford's half and peppering the goal with shots. Despite this, the opening goal proved illusive and it was not until the stroke of half time when Rory Bollard poached a goal at the far post.
In the second half, the home side upped the pace of the game, which had been very slow to this point, but against the run of play it was Ashford who scored with a deflected shot from the right edge of the penalty area. Bordenians however took this setback in their stride and soon afterwards Richard O'Kane had his own shot deflected into the goal, this time via the cross bar. After this, Bordenians were determined not to allow their advantage to slip again, and with a well worked short corner, Richard Phillips slotted home a third.
