Old Bordenian 4B XI -  4

Gore Court - 0

Bordenians completed the first half of their league programme with a comprehensive win against a depleted Gore Court side in this local derby.

Bordenians took control with a style of hockey that belied the young age of most of the team and, with sweeping moves, regularly threatened the opposition goal. The Bordenians 'keeper was in contrast a virtual spectator as the home defence snuffed out the Gore Court forays. The opening goal for Bordenians came as Neil Willis swept past several defenders on the baseline before sliding the ball in past the 'keeper at the near post. A second followed soon after as Oliver Hewitt drifted past two defenders on top of the area and smashed the ball past the static 'keeper this time at the far post.

In the second half the Bordenians if anything tightened their grip as their defence rarely allowed Gore Court into their defensive zone, whilst up front the pressing play of their forward line kept pressure on the visitors' keeper. The third goal was sweetly converted by Richard Phillips, his first for the club. To their credit, the visitors at no time capitulated and competed with determination throughout.
