Ashford - 2
Old Bordenian 4B X1 - 2
Bordeninas gifted Ashford a point having taken a two goal lead midway through the first half. From the first whistle, Bordenians dominated and took the game to an Ashford side that employed an 8 man defence. Consequently, the relatively inexperienced Bordenian forward line found it difficult to break down the massed ranks, and it was not until midway through the half that they constructed a flowing move down the right side that ended with Rory Bollard tapping in at the far post. A rout looked likely when a rapid second goal went in, and Bordenians should have been 4 - 0 up at the break had two crucial decisions not deprived Bordenians of a goal and a penalty.
In the second half, Bordenians declined to press Ashford and gave the home side far too much respect. With such space now available, Ashford's patient hockey created some opportunities, and one resulted in a short corner which they duly converted. Bordenians continued to try to play stylish hockey but were caught on the break and Ashford scored from their best move to tie the game. Despite their best efforts, Bordenians could not break down a packed Ashford penalty area and they had to settle for a single point when three should have been the least for their endeavours.
