Old Bordenian 4A X1 – 1
Brom/Becks - 9
This encounter would have
been much more important had OBs continued their great form from the start of
the season, however it was still a game whereby OBs wanted to prove that they
were better than their position in the league indicated.
Both teams started brightly but it was obvious from the off that Brom Becks were
much better in all departments, OBs were lucky to keep it to single figures
overall, with Kevin Hughes and Jeremy Hewlett thwarting some of the constant
attacks. Brom Becks notched up 4 goals in quick succession and OBs had no
answer, although their build up play was just as good as Brom Becks, their
finishing let them down, a well taken penalty stroke by Oliver Hewlett was the
only consolation of the whole game which gave OBs some momentum.
OBs had much more of the game in the second half, forcing Brom Becks onto the
back foot for the last fifteen minutes of the game, but once again the finishing
was the deciding factor with Brom Becks taking advantage of OBs' pushing up and
scored on the break on a couple of occasions. Despite the score-line, OBs never
gave up and constantly pushed forward, but were always outclassed by a league
winning, well drilled Brom Becks side.
