Old Bordenian 3rdXI – 4

Holcombe 4thXI - 0

Bordenians had a good opportunity to maintain their unbeaten run and consolidate third place against a  side from the lower half of the league, and so it transpired. With OBs having the bulk of the play, Holcs main attacking option was the breakaway, which they did to some effect, threatening the home goal on more than one occasion. They even had the ball in the net, only to realise that the umpire had already blown for a penalty corner. The Maroons were hampered by the fact that they were playing into the sun but managed to move the ball around with some fluency and effect, particularly due to the efforts of Blades, Giblin and Willis. Holcs again threatened and this time hit the cross bar when scoring may have been an easier option. It was to cost them, as the ball was quickly transferred to the other end and the cross from the right was put away by Tom Moore.

The first half ended at 1-0. Now with the sun at their backs, Bordenians were able to play more expansively and take fuller control of the game. Holcs still had their moments and it took a great, close range reaction save from Neil Ranger to keep them out. Gradually the pressure told as OBs were able to transfer the ball from side to side of the pitch. A goal apiece from Dale and Thompson in the space of two minutes effectively saw the end of the game, although Holcs did not give up. Finally, a goal from Blades, with 15 minutes to go, meant that the points went to the 'Bourne side.

After a poor performance earlier in the season against next week's opponents, Anchorians, the Maroon and Gold's third team will be looking to put the record straight and maintain the momentum they have built up.
