Old Bordenian 3rd XI – 3
Maidstone 3rd XI – 1
Old Bordenians hit the post, missed two good chances and a penalty stroke and blunted the occasional Maidstone forays into the Maroons' “D”. By half-time, anyone watching who knew that the game was 1st v 3rd in the Division might have been forgiven for not quite knowing which was which. OBs played their best, most consistent hockey of the season. The wide players, Michael Neame and Ricky Dale, tortured the Maidstone defence. Nick Thompson and Steve Dale, up front, gave them no rest and Richard Aldison and Pat Wiseman, in the midfield, completely bossed the area. With Steve Bond and Martyn Heaney snuffing out any threats, the only way that Crompton and Hailwood could get into the game was to push forward as far as they could. 'Keeper Ranger only had one touch of the ball in the second half, such was the dominance of the ‘Bourne side. Another stroke was awarded and this time was converted. From a penalty corner, a slipped pass to Neame made the score 2-1. A shot from Steve Dale slid wide but a late deflection from Thompson increased the OB lead to 3-1.
