Old Bordenians pulled off a classic smash and grab at Maidstone on Saturday, mainly down to the heroics of goalkeeper Bond and the subtle finishing of Archer. The first half saw Maidstone pound the Old Boys' defence and it held firm until Maidstone scored a drag-flick from a short corner. However the second half saw the Old Boys make some forays into the Maidstone half and, whilst the finishing was hardly clinical, Dale stole in at the back post to equalise. This seemed to invigorate Maidstone but their tempers started to fray and the Old Boys looked to pick off any mistakes from their slick passing. Archer pounced to slot the winner with just seconds to go.
