Old Bordenian 2nd XI – 2

Canterbury 4A  - 3

Bordeniains' 2nd X1 came into the game bolstered by their first win last week, and during the first half had the better of the exchanges, leading 1-0 at the break, following another clinical finish from Matt Blades. Although the visitors showed glimpses of their form, having had a 100% record this season, the Old Boys had more possession and more chances, being unfortunate not to be two or three up at the interval. Mason Shoebridge and Jack Bayford were controlling the right hand side of the field, with Rob Lamb and Jez Sholfield more than holding their own in the centre of midfield.

In the second half, the visitors upped their work rate and put considerably more pressure on the Old Boys’ defence, although 'keeper Andy Bond was still not called into action. The breakthrough came when the Old Boys defence went to sleep and let in a Canterbury forward for a rebound from Bond’s pads. Shortly after, a visiting central midfielder muscled his way into the “D” and another rebound found its way into the home goal. The Old Boys were spurred on by this unfortunate turnaround and struck back within 5 minutes, Bayford providing a superb finish after a flowing move and goalmouth scramble.

Canterbury found the decisive goal straight afterwards, however. Poor marking in the Old Boys’ defence let in a visiting forward, after yet another rebound fell perfectly for his strike and unfortunately for the home side, who failed to supply another response in the few minutes left.

OBs' 2s travel to Eastbourne next Saturday.
