Folkestone 2nd X1 - 0

Old Bordenians - 2

The long awaited victory has arrived, and the inclusion of phrases such as "clean sheet" and "Captains assist" will surely only add to the excitement that will unfold below. The Old boys knew this was a must-win game and so did the opposition, as they had written it on their results board. With a new formation seeing Lamb skip into the middle, and the pace of Blades and Mason upfront, things started well, with the front men drawing out the Folkestone defence and allowing Lamb and Sage to forage through. Folkestone however were not going to be rolled over, and despite numerous short corners were unable to capitalise.  Folkestone lost a player to suspension and the Old Boys continued to apply pressure. They were eventually rewarded when Lamb sneaked the ball over the line to take the lead. Archer made a couple of goal line clearances which made up for his habit of trying to introduce skill to the team, somewhat unsuccessfully some would say. Then captain, Ed Carter picked the ball up in the Old Boys' 25, beat two players, crossed the half way line and, despite a heavy nose bleed, marauded on. Carter passed to Lamb who fed Blades whose first time shot nestled into the goal. The Old Boys held on, with Bond pulling off a fine save in the dying seconds to maintain their first clean sheet in 23 games.
