Folkestone – 2
Old Bordenian 1st X1 - 2
The Kent / Sussex regional league is extremely tight as we near the end of the season and OBs travelled to Folkestone knowing a win or draw could see them safe from relegation. With 6 regular players missing it was likely to be a struggle.
Folkestone started the game the more dominant and were able to create several good chances, only for them to be denied the opening goal by keeper Andy Bond. Whilst OBs were still finding there feet with the new line up, Folkestone eventually made the break after 20 minutes. In response OBs began to play as a team and created several good goal-scoring opportunities but the Folkestone keeper and some desperate defending kept them at bay. At half time the score remained 1 – 0 but OBs went in full of confidence.
The second half was dominated by OBs as they pushed on to find the equalizer, after 3 or 4 good scoring opportunities they eventually made the break through thanks to the dominance of captain Justin Hudson in the middle and the cool finish of striker Glenn Prebble. This spurred both teams on and Folkestone were awarded a controversial penalty flick which was subsequently saved by keeper Andy Bond. Full of confidence from that save and the earlier goal, OBs knew there were more goals in the game, with 10 minutes remaining Richard Cooper finished off a slick short corner move to give OBs the lead. OBs held the lead until the last minute when Folkestone were able to convert from a fortuitous short corner.
This hard earned point means that OBs are safe from relegation and currently residing in sixth place in the league. Every player showed true character and the desire to earn the point and to prove a point.
