Old Bordenian 1st X1 – 2

Sutton Valence - 1

A disciplined performance on Saturday ensured all three points for Old Bordenians and a move back up to fourth place in the Kent/Sussex Regional League.

Sutton Valence were gifted the opening goal when a momentary lapse in concentration left their striker one-on-one with 'keeper and he converted confidently.  Sutton Valence barely got into the area after that as Bordenians began to dominate the game with long periods of possession and sustained pressure on the Valence defence, and it was only a matter of time before the equaliser came.  All the hard work for the goal was done by Iain Burwood who then set up Matt Blades for his first 1XI goal in what is only his second appearance for the 1XI.

Scores remained level at half time and the second half continued to be dominated by Bordenianswho created several good opportunities to take the lead.  Eventually, midway through the half, OBs found the back of the net thanks to Matt Blades with his second goal of the game, a cool deflection over the 'keeper.  As the game drew to a close Sutton Valence piled on the pressure winning several short corners but the OBs defence remained strong and composed and some late saves from goalie Richard Ford made certain OBs got what they deserved.

An excellent team performance from Old Bordenian who travel to Herne Bay next week full of confidence.
